sorry I was not clear before: I have no results _only_ when I search for a word
containing umlauts (but I know that there is such a word because I see it for
example in the abstract for a previous search done on a word without umlauts).
btw the output of searches done on  no-umlaut-words look fine: the umlauts are
properly displayed in the abstracts

the databases are created where they are supposed to be; I tried also
the single commands, htdig + htmerge (and htfuzzy for synonims),
beside the rundig scripts ... :(
