Thanks I read that and checked everything in it. Nothing in it solves
the problem.
I have never had any problem building the Berkely DB Perl module. It
builds fine against the Berkeley DB3 libraries that are currently included
in Linux.
It can verify that it works, too because if I first run db3_upgrade on the
htdig database, then whatsnew.pl produces results as expected. (But then
htdig can no longer access its own database).
But *unless* I run db3_upgrade, whatsnew produces no results against the
htdig database. And running db3_upgrade locks out further use of htdig.
I know it has been working for some people. My guess is that they built
against db2 (not on option for me because Linux now comes with DB3) because
they had a release of Linux that contained DB2. Perhaps db2 could read db1
files, but db3 cannot.
