I was incorrect to say that htDig comes with and uses Berkeley db1. It turns out that it comes with and uses Berkeley db2, as Geoff suggested.
So whatnews.pl should in fact work if I can compile the perl BerkelyDB with db2. However, I have two systems, one with db1 and one with db3, so I have problems. In theory, I could compile it against the db2 that comes with htDig, as was also suggested. That requires actually installing the db2 that comes with htDig. I did that, but I cannot yet get the perl Berekely DB to compile on this system. I will keep at it but wanted to correct my prior posts.
