Thanks - that makes it very clear - I was wondering whether I was
misunderstanding the help pages on what kinds of substitution are
allowed where.

Did that (but with the 3.1.5 patch - see previous message).  It works
fine, and I'm very happy with it, so thanks to you both.

I have one pales-into-insignificance cosmetic comment : the appearance
of the *displayed* search result URLs I'm now getting is (just my 2p)
not quite as complete ("slick" ?) looking :

  Kumquat Harvest Reports, 1994
     /reports/harvests/kumquat-1994.html, ....

as it would be if the URL included the server name :

  Kumquat Harvest Reports, 1994
     http://www.ourserver.org/reports/harvests/kumquat-1994.html, ....

like it does with ht://dig out of the box.

I realise this is subjective, and hardly important.
