Thanks for the feedback. I saw a post from Geoff from about six months ago that mentioned the same thing. It worked for me by adding --disable-shared alone (didn't need --enable-static). If I knew anything about libtool and autoconf I'd offer to help, but that is way, way outside my area of expertise (currently the Simpsons...)

Any ideas what might be the problem or can someone recommend a more usable release of 3.2?

There are still some problems with regard to dynamic linking when it comes to ht://Dig and OS X. I have been using --enable-static --disable-shared with configure in order to work around this issue. I think the issue involves libtool or the auto* tools, but so far no one has gotten around to tracking down the problem.
