Thanks. I didn't rename it, What is the hard-coded path set to by default? when I looked at the source it also used and environment variable CONFIG_DIR, I tried setting this with no luck as well.

One cause for this error is moving the configuration file to a different location without rebuilding htsearch. Another is that file/directory permissions are set such that the web server does not have read access on the configuration file.
