Do you have the ability to run rundig (or htdig) manually from a command
line? If so, the first thing you should do is try indexing with verbose
output (e.g. -vvv). If something is preventing htdig from running to
completion, which is likely if you are seeing a 2048 byte database file,
then the verbose output should give you a clue as to where the problem is
occurring.
