As I've undestood it, htpurge is now called instead of htmerge?
The problem is, that the indexing with htpurge seems to need a lot of more
time then htmerge before, could that be ?

Because since I've updated my htdig to the newest release 3.2.0b6,
my indexing does not finish in one night anymore...

The indexing process changed dramatically between 3.1 and 3.2. In 3.2, indexing involves a great deal more work than in 3.1, which is why you are seeing a slow down. Unless something strange is going on, htpurge is not itself responsible for all of the slow down. The htdig program is likely taking much longer to run.

Can I just change the rundig file back to use htmerge?

No. The htmerge program included with 3.2 now serves as nothing more than a utility for merging multiple databases. The general index building tasks that used to be performed by htmerge have been moved to htpurge.
