I havent read this thread from the beginning, sorry if i
got it wrong.

Maybee this is for an internal website, maybee there is
only one login account.
I am not an expert, but generally its considered a very bad
idea to index pages that need a login.
The information you generally want to hide from public view
will be accessible from htdig if you let htdig index the
pages.
Also, when someone searches and finds the information they
want, and then discover that the only way to get it is to
log in as another user, they might get annoyed.
If the information already is in a database, why not make
the database searchable? Why then index with htdig?

What kind of login are we talking about? basic
authentication ? or some kind of cookie mechanism, maybee
with PHP sessions?
I dont know how htdig handles cookies, but if there is a
login with some kind of session cookie htdig needs to set
and transmit the cookie.
As far as i know, htdig only handles Basic authentication
scheme.

One way i can think of is if you use php to create static
HTML files in some directory, and let htdig index these,
and then delete the static pages. The problem with this
soloution is of course that the URLs will not work, and you
need to rewrite the URLS. The url_part_aliases,
search_rewrite_rules and url_rewrite_rules in the config
(http://www.htdig.org/attrs.html) might solve that problem,
but since i havent tried this i am not sure.

Hope this was any help to you!

Now, is there any validity to the rumor that Microsoft is
trying to license
Donald Duck from Disney so they'll have a mascot for Windux?
