Yes, sure, it's only for linux. But only linux has this !@#$@#$ 2G limit.
FreeBSD and Sun can have 64bits file offsets. I'm not sure HP and AIX
has it, but I think so.
Anyway, it was just a bit of information. I'm not saying that this prevents
me from trying to find a solution to compress files in an OS independent
way :-)
