If rx-1.5 is the latest posted on the GNU archive, then they've 
backpedaled. Last summer, the latest was 1.9, though that didn't 
build very well and required a patch to the standard tar to run 
'make.' I talked with the developer (I can't even remember his name 
right now) and came to the conclusion that he'd moved beyond rx.

This was one of my motivating factors for moving towards the glibc 
regex code. Getting a noticeable speed boost was a nice plus. 
Offhand, I'd be surprised if the glibc folks didn't have some sort of 
wchar-compatible regex, either right now or in development. I'll take 
a look in a bit.
