The general idea of abstracting the transport code away from HTTP is to
allow other mechanisms. It would be nice to add HTTPS, though I'm not too
sure about the legalities of that. Obviously, there are a few methods that
should be added, such as FTP.

However, one part of the new transport layer wil be an "ExternalTransport"
mechanism, that should make it fairly easy to write a transport script
that hooks to a program like curl, wget, etc. which would sidestep the
issue of encryption legalities.

Once my phone starts working (grumble), I'll be able to work on this...
