Does this file already exist? My first thought would be a permission
problem, or perhaps some sort of library failing--the new shared libraries
must be available to load. I'm not familiar with Slackware, so the loader
might need some hints, I don't know.

Sorry, I forgot that you have to supply the --enable-tests flag to
configure to do this. Don't worry about it.
