Thanks for the suggestions: 1) No luck on --primary-seam-generator=nearest-feature-transform. Did not change anything.
2) No luck with or without --pre-assemble. 3) Always wanted to try multiblend. Never found adequate instructions for running in windows. Tried and failed several times over the last decade.
