And what do you imagine are the implications of channel-hopping regarding
quantities of RF ?

There is a general fear of RF devices about the person now due to awareness
re cell-phone studies. But not necessarily an 'informed' fear. In general
the RF output of personal transceivers  can now be far lower than it has
been for the last 60 years for the same range. And it is hugely lower for
cell-phones.

I do know a little about this sort of thing, it (the repair and testing of
radio gear) having been part of my job for years. Personally I prefer to
avoid using my cell-phone unnecessarily, and always extend the antenna when
I can.  But that is the cell-phone itself, nothing to do with the towers.  I
would avoid staying within say 20 metres of a primary tower site for hours
on end.
