I suggest that the discomfort is totally pyschological.

Absolutely. But it's NOT microwaves, it is ALL electromagnetic radiation. I
never stand near the microwave oven when it is running, and I use my
cellphone infrequently, and never for extended periods. Cellphones are not
microwave frequency, but that is a mere detail..

> It's just a matter of conditions.

Not 'the conditions' - mostly the power level, and to a lesser degree the
frequency. The fact of being in a car is not significant wrt the power
level from a cellphone. It may ramp up to it's maximum if you are operating
around you feet, but equally it will do that anywhere with a weak
tower-signal.

We do.

> Where are they quantified anywhwere?

There are guidelines relating to the levels of electromagnetic radiation
from both power lines and radio that had been developed over the years, and
the subject of many many ongoing studies. They are not secret and are
publically available.

Partly immediate thermal effects, but also the long-term cumulative effects,
maybe at a genetic level.

What LF pulse ?

Yes.

Parochial types are resistant to anything new, even more so if they can see
it and/or don't understand it. Wasn't too long ago you guys were burning
witches at the stake.
