The Brandon FL Hum was been real bad last night, coming from the Northern Source. I used my media player's voice recorder function, tied it to the pole of a large umbrella (attempting to create a parabolic microphone), and went out to try to record the sound (2:45 am EST Oct 22 2009). I think that I got it. I used the Audacity audio editor to 1) normalize it, 2) Multiband EQ'd it (All frequencies except 50hz set at -70db), and Normalized it again.
I have posted both, the original is unchanged, just trimmed for length. I know it has been artificially boosted (the EQ and normalizing), but that is basically what I have had to live with! (Could artifacts from the processing create the rumble?? It sure sounds like the dreaded hum!) The real sound goes right through earplugs AND ear protectors! The vibration is so bad, I have even created a wooden platform that hangs from the ceiling (and doesn't touch the floor!) It cuts the vibration by about 25%, but not enough! The 2 distinct sounds (constant, or oscillating version) occur from the North or the South (and occasionally West (??) ), unless it is a factory on a truck, or two invisible stationary factories, it IS antennas (antennae??) ! I don't know WHY an Antenna can make noise, or why is occurs at seemingly random times. It has been SO long (noise since December, vibration since July '08), no sign of any relief!
