I've been hearing the hum louder here in South West France lately (Nov, 9 2012, I live in Pau) and I can feel a slight pressure on my eardrum sometimes. I can only hear it with my left ear. Last Tuesday I was on a train to Lourdes, the train stopped for some reason in the middle of nowhere and the ventilation system of the car stopped, in the complete silence I could hear the hum even though the train car is well insolated from the outside. I'm sure the hum is not generated by by my ear because when I put a bowl or a glass on my ear, it reduces the intensity of the hum. I have a chimney in my house which seems to amplify the hum, so it is definitely coming from outside, it propagates in the air. All the best from the sunny Pyrenees mountains in South West France.
