About one percent of people can hear the Hum and a very fraction of these
hear the Hum at extreme levels.
Measurements of the Hum energy show small variations at various times of
the day and night but theses cannot account for the extreme changes in Hum
level experienced by some sufferers. There is a missing factor which I
believe involves resonance.
In the early days of radio a method used to increase the output and
sensitivity of a radio receiver was to feed a small part of the output back
to the aerial circuit, this was known as reactance. However, if too much
reactance was applied the radio receiver became a radio transmitter much to
the annoyance of all in the vicinity.
Using a simple Hum detector I have applied the same principle and found it
possible to produce a very sharp resonance curve. If this same process
takes place within the human brain, then for some individuals a small
change in Hum frequency will result in huge changes in the perceived Hum
level, if the principle of reaction also takes place within the human
brain, the individual will hear the Hum at an appalling level that no one
else can hear, and as has happened in the past, sufficient to cause
suicide.
