It's not so bad if the external gear has a learning mode.  Now that I finally
have enough midi interfaces in the right computer I've been using the RM1X to
control Native Instruments Reaktor and my JP-8000 simultaneously . Reaktor
learns great -  Just pick the control, twiddle the knob, and everything gets
automated.

The RM1X knobs are nice, but they don't feel as sturdy as the ones on the
Roland. They also have a pretty fierce center detent which is great in the
dark, but makes it hard to do smoth sweeps past the center detent.

BTW, my new monitors came in (a pair of Event 20/20p's). They've pretty cruel
to a lot of the built in sounds. Actually, they were cruel to the ways  I was
trying to use those sounds, but it feels better if I blame the ROM :-)
