there is no simple way to record mutes..so i would say it is a realtime
option only (of course you can record your whole live modified song to an
external midi-sequencer)....i know there is some way to do mute records to
song-mode, but i never use song mode so i cannot comment....

yes, you can only hear the track you're recording...for me it's not such a
major problem because i mostly start with the rymth programming all in one
track, and use "split track" to split all the different sounds to different
tracks..after that i start recording the other sounds in step or realtime
mode....

no the realtime control knob settings are assigned to a "style", which means
they stay the same for all the tracks...but you can program them to send to
different midi-channels anyway...and 16 realtime control knobs is not very
little imho.....most midi-controllers don't exceed 16 knobs....
