Help, I'm dyin' over here!

The entire staff of the software company I used to work for got laid off on
Monday, and I have nothing but time to program the Rm1x. I have tried it out in
several configurations with the computer (slaving to different audio apps) with
less than stellar results. The most 'natural' sounding combination was slaving
to Acid. The loops I made were really easy to sync to the Rm1x. I guess the
issue that I'm encountering is that unless the the songs live primarily inside
the Rm1x (that is, it's the master) most of it's cool live features go to waste.

There is an issue of final destination of the music as well. I'd like to be
able to plonk the Rm1x down at somebody's house or a gig and be able to crank
out the jams. The reason I got the thing in the first place was to get away
from the computer, and now I'm at the computer more than ever. The sounds on
the Rm1x requires a bit (a shitload) of tweaking to get to in a pleasing shape.
Are you using the Rm1x as a standalone or in combination with other stuff?

I'm also having this techno versus drum and bass war in my head. I read so much
negativity about 4 on the floor beats, and that's understandable, seeing as that
flavor has been around for quite a while now. But it's a cool sound when done
well. The drum and bass stuff is a bit newer (although aging rapidly) and
equally cool. It seems like a sampler-oriented genre though, and a bit harder
to get going on the Rm1x.

Does anyone have suggestions for getting started? I have started literally a
dozen pieces within a week and none of them are holding my attention. What kind
of stuff are people writing with the Rm1x anyway? I'm feeling alone, as the
only guy I know into this stuff got canned at the company as well, so I haven't
seen him for a few days.

Peace,
Scott
