this is only true in grid recording (the X0X type)

yes he does. The split drum track job spits out different phrases based on
the key being used in the phrase. so if you use the internal tone genorator
it works great you get a phrase for all of your snares and a phrase for your
kick and a phrase for your cymbals. from here you can assign any of these to
a new midi channel or 'track'

once again only true in grid record. However you must stop playing in order
to go into record mode. and you must stop recording in order to switch midi
channels. which is a pain for live 'atom heart' type buildup tracks
