Your frined's uncertainty, concerning the sounds on the RM1X is not
unfounded. The internal sounds are--renowned for being--thin and often
cheesy, but in a minor defense of the blue-box, I will say that I like some
of them. And things are not so bad if you heavily EQ things through the mixer
or use some compression and/or external effects. But it really should be
taken and judged for what it is, which is a sequencer. The sounds thrown in
are a plus, but a very small one and in fact some wish they were not there at
all so as to give more power to the sequencing capabilities. But like I said
I enjoy them to a degree, but even more important is the sequencing.
Excellent for live gigs and also studio work for those who don't want to deal
with software sequencers. And god they are going for so cheap! Around 600$ US
new I believe--one of those stores advertising in the new Future Music has
them at 399 pounds. Maybe Yamaha is trying to get rid of their stock? Sorry,
I don't have any URL's but maybe try Mark Arber's sight or some of the links
there.
