Hello everybody,
It seems like this list is mostly full of RM1X users, rather than
QY700-ers like myself, but maybe the problem I'm having applies to both
machines. The problem is that I'm trying to take full advantage of the
'rich expressiveness' of the XG sound engine in the QY by layering
control changes over note data. I was initially trying it with
controller number 11 (expression) to get some nice ebb and flow to the
dynamics, but I found that there seemed to be no smoothing code in the
sound chip to prevent the 'steps' between the discrete controller values
being heard -- a subtle but undesirable 'zipper' noise is generated. I
tried substituting controller 74 (brightness) to get a similar effect
but, while the zipper noise was a little less noticeable, it was still
definitely there.
Does anyone know of any nifty way to get around this problem? I don't
imagine that there's any way to eliminate it (that would have made it a
professional sound module, heaven forbid...), but maybe someone can at
least suggest some ways to minimise/disguise it. It's not that it's
going to kill me (I've got a Korg Prophecy on which I can recreate the
patches zipperlessly for recording purposes) but I'd like to know about
it if there were a more elegant solution...
