That's not how it is for me. Here's how you work the copy pattern feature so
you don't have to use split. This is what I am assuming.  First of all, say
you have the kick drum on track 1 in section A. Then you copy it over to
section B with copy pattern.  Once in B, you decide to add a clap somewhere
in track 1.
Then go back to A to hear the kick drum, and all of the sudden, you hear
that clap.
Here's how you fix that so that clap won't be in A. You either have to A)
put the clap in a new track, or B) don't copy the pattern and rewrite the
track in section B to have the claps and the kicks (I guess here is where
the clap works).
I hope this helps someone. Or else it was a waste of my and your time, hehe.

You can copy a hole pattern with the split button.
