Hello list!

I've just begun experimenting with my PDA (right now, I have Familiar
0.8.4 on my hx4700), and have run into some problems:

Right now, I'm trying to install the latest hh.org kernel (2.6.20-hh2, I
think) in the PDA, but with no success so far:
- I'm using hx4700_static_defconfig
- I'm setting CONFIG_MTD_CHAR, CONFIG_MTD_BLOCK, CONFIG_MTD_BLOCK_RO,
etc... as read in
http://www.handhelds.org/hypermail/hx4700-port/27/2763.html
- make oldconfig, make zImage...
It compiles without problems, so I install the modules in /lib/modules
and reflash the zImage. But... the kernel refuses to boot (the screen
goes black after the SDG logo, no Tux, no "please wait, booting", nothing)
So, my first questions is: Has anybody run this kernel in a hx4700? If
so, which config did you use? Did I miss something?

The next step should be to look at the kernel logs. Right now I don't
have a serial cable (is it possible to see them with the USB cradle??),
so while I manage to get one, I thought I would try to modify the
bootloader (bootldr-1.2.4) to show the logs on the screen, as described
in http://www.handhelds.org/hypermail/hx4700-port/27/2741.html
So, I get the rom, edit it in a hex editor, and change
"console=ttyS0,115200n8" with "console=tty0". I reflash it (I get a
checksum error, but so does the original bootloader) and... it refuses
to boot at all (not even the SDG logo is seen). Luckily, reflashing the
original bootloader puts things back to normal (that is, kernel not
booting :-\)
So, second question: Has anyone modified the bootloader to see things on
the screen and managed to boot? what am I missing?

I hope someone had the patience to read through all this :)
Thanks in advance,

Luis P.
