If the 510RES volume is CP owned, then it is likely that it is "in use" by some CP facility (such as SPOOL or PAGING or ???). Why would you want to ATTACH it to MAINT? >From reading at http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/HCSE4B00/2.39 You might be able to do a DETACH VOLID 510RES SYSTEM QUERY CPOWNED to determine which "slot" 510RES is in. DEFINE CPOWNED SLOT slot RESERVED However, again, if it is in active use, it cannot be DETACHed from the SYSTEM. So, I guess, that this is a new RES? Have you considered just updating MAINT so that 510RES is defined as a full volume mini-disk? That way, you can do whatever you need to without DETACHing from the SYSTEM.
