I understand use of the TSO exit is deprecated because it is
bypassed by writing to WRITER(INTRDR). (Also possibly by submitting
a job via FTP?) I believe there's a similar JES exit that's more
suitable.

When I generate JCL programmatically, I always write directly to
INTRDR. It saves a step, and works under z/OS Unix shell and
IRXJCL -- no TSO required.
