IBM should provide, IMO, a error free (or almost) way of transmitting
dumps.
It seems to me that sending the dump as an Email Attachment as opposed
to an FTP would solve this issue of having to monitor the FTP. There
is an option to define the Attachment as EXTERNAL (ie: Not included in
the Message itself so there is no need to spool it at the Sending and
Receiving Ends). What happens is that the transmission of the
Attachment is delayed until final delivery at which point an automatic
FTP-Type session is performed to do the transfer. This transfer is
done so that any transfer problems are handled by resume-download
under the covers by the delivery daemon.
I was thinking of an NJE connection (there might be naming issues) But
it would seem (to me) that there are facilities in place to do so. They
could send ptf's and you could do a receive to set up for a smp
receive. Just an idea, which I hope IBM has looked at.
