Jon, You do have some control over HSA size using the "Max number of devices" parameter in the IODF. However, from what I noticed, this makes very little change, even when decreased by tens of thousands.. It seems the "base" HSA size for the machine is what makes the big difference -- we noticed an increase when moving from z890 to z990 (not surprising, but still)... Gil.
