Cute, but not so dramatic. In 2001, I was doing a gig, and one of the things they asked about was transferring a 100TB disk array from Japan to the US. They were thinking of renting a 1GB line, but that was pretty expensive. I did a quick calculation and pointed out that if they could shut it down, unship it, get it on a plane, fly it to the US, and plug it back in over a 24-hour period, that was about the same throughput… (Of course, if the plane went down, they were out of business!) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
