I got to wondering: have your LE default settings been changed in moving from 1.9 to 1.10? If someone got it in their bonnet to set the default to POSIX(ON) that might account for the change in behavior.
I'll cross-check this tomorrow - but afaik POSIX(OFF) is in effect...
