As I noted in another message, if you need to eject or insert lots of cartridges, bypassing the import/eject port and just going to the storage area can be faster since the operation (moving the tapes between the import/eject door and the storage areas and loading/unloading takes time). If you just do an inventory after the manual removal/insert there is a point in time based on the number of tapes and storage slots where the inventory operation is faster than the automated movement.
