I think on of the best learning methodz is having a good boss. My first job as a sysprog around 1978 at Milwaukee County, I had a really good boss. He would call me into his office, and tell me about a new project he had for me. He'd tell me things to watch out for, show me the manual and what to read in it, and then be available for questions whenever I had them. He really knew his stuff.

Eric, that's how I first got into System Programming, back in 1969. But that boss sent me to OS/360 school in the summer of 1970. I've been grateful ever since. :-)
