I also might add that an exclusive enqueue is held by HSM during CDS backup. Meaning no other HSM function can process during this time. If you opt for multiclustering, keep in mind that some OEM and in-house JCL may need to change because they will need DDs for each cluster. MICS and IDCAMS DCOLLECT are just two I can think of off the top of my head.

The advantage: Separate clusters reduce backup processing time by allowing parallel operations.
