That's my understanding also. If your institution is using IBM MLC for teaching and/or research purposes, it may fall under the System z Academic Initiative terms. For supporting business functions such as tuition billing, no, those terms probably wouldn't apply. That said, I'm not aware of any impediment to running an Academic Initiative LPAR and a "regular" LPAR on the same machine.
