I would like to configure NPIV on our z10 BC server. In reading various books, I see a requirement for enabling NPIV on the switch before enabling it on the z10. Right now, I have one chpid configured as a FCP type accessible to our IFL hosting Linux under z/vm. We have not plugged cables into the chpid port yet. My question is: Should the cable be connected to the z10 and the switch prior to either the switch and z10 being configured for NPIV? ? and if not, why does it matter if I enable it first?
