When you are in a position of strength, like looking for another job while you
are still working, you can afford to make value judgments like that. If you in
a position of weakness, like being out of work for an inordinate amount of time
and are grasping at straws in trying to put food on the table, even a $20 an
hour job is preferable to nothing.

Logic has nothing to do with it in the latter case.

If your goal is to win the race towards the bottom then this logic makes
sense. If we (as a group) refuse to accept wages that don't value our
skill set and value we bring to the organization, market forces will
result in the offered wage being increased.

We're acting against our own interests when we accept wages that are set
at the insult level.
