The next meeting of Hillgang, the DC z/VM and Linux on z user group, will be
at the Herndon office of CA on October 19 (8:30 for 9). The current
abstracts are below. I'm expecting an update to one of these abstracts and
maybe an addition to the program as well.

z/VM Update - Richard Lewis IBM
-----------
Have you heard about IBM's Statement of Direction regarding Single System
Image (SSI) clusters and Guest Mobility? If so, then you are probably
wondering how you're going to get from here to there. This session will
explore various methodologies for converting existing z/VM environments into
an SSI cluster.

Manage, Monitor and Protect Linux on z - CA
--------------------------------------
As cost reduction and operational efficiency continue to be key IT drivers,
organizations need more effective ways to evaluate, provision and manage
workloads on the most efficient platform possible. Join us for a discussion
on how the use of a holistic approach to running, monitoring and managing
Linux on System z can help you achieve the economies of scale you need to
grow your business while lowering risk and cost.

User Experiences with DataMart on Linux for System z at FMS - Jim Moling
-----------------------------------------------------------
This session will present a user experience that focuses on the Linux for
System z implementation of a hybrid DataMart model that incorporates an
operational data store (ODS) model with the traditional DataMart model. This
hybrid implementation draws upon the traditional data mart model to provide
aggregate data and the ODS model to provide more detailed transactional
data. As such, the configuration and implementation using Virtual Linux
Servers under z/VM on a z10 processor will be presented, which includes the
use of IBM's Websphere DataStage product for extraction, transformation and
loading (ETL) of data into a DB2 based repository from several external
databases. Challenges faced and resolved during the implementation of this
configuration will be discussed. Finally, resource requirements, i.e. IFL,
memory and SAN space as well as performance statistics of the production
DataMart implementation will be presented.
