Justification: MONEY. No real need to use TKE.
It has been my opinion for several years that entering the master keys is a hardware
function and should be another (separate) role of the HMC. (E.g. User ALAN has role of
"Crypto Express Master Key administrator - Part 2 of 3".)
Only inertia keeps things the way they are today.
Inertia or money. TKE is quite expensive PC - AFAIK it costs 35k$.
BTW: I also would add another feature to the HMC: OSA/SF capabilities.
Configuration of OSA chpids on new machine requires IPL of z/OS (or
other system) and TCP/IP connection or you have to use very inconvenient
TSO (not ISPF!!!) application. It's ridiculous to require TCP/IP network
to configure network adapter.
Last, but not least, OSA, OAT are hardware, like OSA ICC (managed from
HMC in easy and convenient way).
