This is not one of my strengths.
I have read all the redbooks on it.

My understanding is that TCP/IP on z will/can use FICON/ESCON (CTC) to talk to
another z.

But, it doesn't say directly, that OSA is required for other platforms.
It implies it by showing configs using that.
Never shows a FICON (ESCON) connection to the world beyond z.

I've read all I can (understanding little), and the question is:

Can I use FICON (ESCON) connections to talk to alternate platforms?
Do I want to?
Or, is OSA the way to do it?

When in doubt.
PANIC!!
