AMEN!!!
And that goes for every product/program. For instance I see a lot of
'resource not available' errors in OMVS but no idea of what resource
they are missing. The program detecting an error is in the best position
to tell the world what is causing the error os they should make every
effort to do it.

Just out of curiosity (and showing my ignorance of JES2 internals) :

Has anyone ever asked the JES2 folks if they could get JES2 to be a
little bit more explicit as to whatever is stopping a JES2 shutdown?

Is there a good reason why JES2 just doesn't list the items (and
reasons) that are causing it to be not dormant?

When I was a sysprog, I saw quite a few system logs with the operators
trying all varieties of their favourite commands to get the desired "ALL
AVAILABLE FUNCTIONS COMPLETE" message - you can almost hear the sigh of
relief when it comes.

Are you using TFS and/or ZFS UNIX file systems? If so, are they started
under JES2 or under MSTR? Check BPXPRMxx

If under, JES2, they need to be stopped before JES2 will become dormant.
