Harvesting by whom? Subscribers to IBM-MAIN?

At the risk of getting flamed here, how tough is it to

- Use a unique e-mail address for this list
- Get your e-mail client to sort everything sent to that e-mail address that
is NOT from IBM-MAIN into a unique folder
- Delete everything in that folder once a month or so

Would that not insulate you 100% from SPAM that originated in any way from
your address appearing in IBM-MAIN?

Now I'm not defending SPAM or defending carelessness, but gee, if I were
doing the above, and deleting the contents of one folder once a month were
the biggest problem in my life, I would feel very lucky.

There are also some pretty good commercial SPAM filters. The e-mail address
above is my "main" e-mail address. My ISP uses Postini. I have it set to
(AFAIR) its second most permissive setting. I get almost zero SPAM on this
account, and almost zero lost e-mails due to "false positives."

Yes, but those of us who use the listserv still get the email
address of the sender, e.g.:

    Greg Shirey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

[I've changed part of the above to keep in the spirit of the
discussion.] so those are available to harvesting.
