Making PIPES an automatically entitled part of the base z/OS product would allow users and vendors to build function that depends on it and add a great deal of value to z/OS as a platform. I remember how excited I was when I stumbled on one of the "Plumber's" sessions at SHARE years ago and how quickly that excitement faded when I realized the hurdles I felt I could not overcome to get it acquired.
