Is that both Solaris/SPARC and Solaris i86?
I couldn't say; I've personally only used the WSA with Windows. In that
environment, it's a really easy way to transfer files between a mainframe
and PC.

OK. So you're a Windows partisan. Isn't that the only current OS
with .EXE? (I know; on a UNIX system you can name a program anything:
WSA.EXE or WSA.JPG; it doesn't matter. But I don't believe that's
the sense of your remark.)
I don't know which platforms are able to run EXE's. If Solaris (or whatever)
can run the WorkStation Agent, and if (as you suggest) it cannot run EXE's,
then I guess the extension doesn't have to be EXE. Whatever the extension
is, the WSA would obviously need to be programmed to run in that
environment. As far as I'm concerned, the more environments the WSA is able
to run in, the better!
