Your UNIX "message catalog" is out of sync with your ftp server code. Have you just applied some maintenance? To answer the next question, "no, I don't remember how to fix this." I vaguely remember doing a UNMOUNT ... REMOUNT command to sync the UNIX filesystems. Or maybe that was for a different problem.
