In this case the Centera is connected via OSA-Adapter. There is no need for any adapter (emulator) like Bus-Tech MAS.The Centera Mainframe HSM Migrator operates within the existing DFSMShsm address space. It uses three HSM exits (ARCMDEXT, ARCPEXT, ARCINEXT).

So, it would seem that a hardware adapter like the BusTek MDL would be needed to make the Centera look like an array of tape devices and volumes, which would then be used just like normal tape by HSM.
