I have a similar need, but I'm on one z9BC with four monoplex LPARs.
My current 4 hour average is around 19 MSU at the peak of the batch
window. We have no problem getting all batch done at night. My daytime
peaks for online (The stuff that matters to most users) are around 14 to
15 MSU.
I'd like to CAP such that the Batch takes longer and the peak is
lower. Can I do this in a non-sysplex world?
Dave, sysplex has no bearing on this.
IIUC, you're saying your 19 MSU R4HA is for the entire CEC.
I suggest you establish an LPAR Capacity Group on your z9 with a
capacity limit of 18 MSU and assign all four LPARs to the group. What
you *should* see is your nightly processing for all four LPARs combined
not exceed 18 MSU R4HA, which should lengthen your batch window. If that
works for you, and nobody complains, reduce the capacity limit to 17 MSU
and so forth...
