As a capacity analyst since 1981, I've fought the battle of
the compiler vs the execution.
Run the compiler steps in a low priority service class and
stop complaining!

Generally agreed. But for any "one off", be sure to not over optimize!
I agree for hand optimized code. Leave it to the compiler, it knows best.
